I had originally planned a fantastic Wordy Wednesday about me ripping my pants at the Tough Mudder this weekend, but I saw the below on Facebook this morning and couldn’t avoid not discussing it.
I don’t normally discuss my Religious or Political views on this blog, but there are certain issues that I’m very interested in discussing and better understanding.
Same Sex Marriage is one of them, and mainly why so many people are so against it.
I’m all for letting anyone who wants to get married the right to do so. I my opinion the more weddings the better, what’s not to like about seeing people happy, dancing and awkward family moments?
I absolutely hate the fact that Same Sex Marriage is on a ballet every November. This may sound elementary, but wasn’t this country founded on the premise that Church and State are separate?!
While I applaud the states that have voted in favor of Same Sex Marriage, it really bothers me that people go to the voting booths and deny another human being a right by voting against Same Sex Marriage.
I can not wrap my head around the concept of denying someone else’s rights based on my beliefs.
(Ed. Note: In MA it was a State Supreme Court decision to allow Same Sex Marriage it was never voted on by the MA public and isn’t actually a State law, it’s a Precedent that was established by the State Supreme Court ruling. I learned this in a Business Law class.)
I thought this picture does a really good job at capturing my thoughts and feelings on voting on Same Sex Marriage (Source):
I can write a list a mile long about things that affect me more and/or things I would rather have political figures focus on rather than who can and can’t pledge to spend the rest of their lives together. Here are a few for example (in no particular order):
-World Peace
-Unemployment
-Rain/Snow
-6am/9pm conference calls
-my roommates not doing their dishes
-running late/having to get out of bed in the morning
-cookies and ice cream having a lot of calories
Jack wrote a fantastic article on this topic (Same Sex Marriage, not cookies and ice cream) over at Coffee with Caesar, check it out!
